Kindergarten Field Trip - Woodland Zoo

Before signing up all volunteers must complete a training with Mrs. Lux and have a current background check (go here if you need to&nbsp;<a href="https://bsd405.org/get-involved/volunteer/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">complete a background check</a>) on file with Bellevue School District (renewed every 3 years). When you volunteer, check-in via the Lobby Guard computer in the Main Office.If you have not been trained please e-mail Mrs. Lux at luxja@bsd405.org to learn when the next training will be held. By observing four soils (pebbles, sand, clay [silt] and loam) students learn to identify each. They then experiment with “perk” tests for each soil type to discover the rate at which water percolates (flows) through them. The inquiry process is incorporated. They learn about the composition of soil, follow a soil recipe, and plant a hens-and-chicks plant to take home. The students will go for a walk through the Garden looking at different types of soil. (FOSS: Pebbles, Sand, and Silt)"
